Getting Started

Do I need a referral to see a physical Therapist?

No, you do not need a referral to start physical therapy at AZPI. Arizona is a direct access state, which means you can schedule an appointment and begin treatment without seeing a doctor first. This saves you time and gets you on the road to recovery faster.

How do I schedule an appointment?

You can schedule directly by clicking this link or call us at 480-500-1446. We offer same-day appointments for most services, so you don't have to wait weeks to get started.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Bring a valid photo ID, your insurance card (if using insurance), any imaging results you have (X-rays, MRI, etc.), and wear or bring comfortable clothing that allows access to the area being treated. If you have already filled out your paperwork online you can arrive just before your appointment, otherwise please aarive 10–15 minutes early to complete any intake paperwork.

What can I expect at my first visit?

Your first visit is a thorough evaluation, not just a quick assessment. Your physical therapist will take time to understand your history, goals, and how you move. From there, they'll build a personalized plan tailored to you. Most patients leave their first session with a clear picture of what's going on and what the path forward looks like.

Insurance & Pricing

Do you Accept Insurance?

Yes, we accept most major insurance plans including Medicare and Medicaid policies. We recommend calling your insurance provider ahead of your first visit to confirm your physical therapy benefits and any co-pay or deductible amounts. Our front desk team can also help answer questions about your coverage.

Do you offer private pay options?

Yes. If you're uninsured, prefer not to use insurance, or are pursuing sports performance training (which is typically not covered by insurance), we offer transparent private pay rates. Contact us for current pricing.

Does insurance cover sports performance training?

Sports performance training is generally not covered by insurance, as it falls outside traditional medical treatment. However, many patients combine 1-on-1 physical therapy (which is often covered) with sports performance sessions for a comprehensive program.

Physical Therapy

What conditions do you treat?

We treat a wide range of conditions including knee pain, back pain, shoulder pain, hip pain, ACL rehabilitation, post-surgical recovery, sports injuries, sciatica, general movement dysfunction, and pelvic floor therapy. Our approach goes beyond just treating the injury, we focus on root cause and long-term performance.

How long does a physical therapy session last?

Sessions at AZPI are typically 45–60 minutes of 1-on-1 time with your physical therapist. We don't do the "see three patients at once" model, your session is yours from start to finish.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies depending on your condition and goals. Your therapist will give you a realistic estimate after your initial evaluation. Most patients see meaningful progress within 4–6 sessions, though complex injuries or post-surgical recovery may require more.

How is AZPI different from other PT clinics?

Most traditional PT clinics rotate patients through exercises with minimal therapist contact. At AZPI, every session is 1-on-1. We blend rehab with a performance mindset so you're not just recovering, you're coming back stronger than before.

Sports Performance

Who is sports performance training for?

Anyone who wants to move better, get stronger, and perform at a higher level. From competitive athletes to recreational fitness enthusiasts, you don't need to be a professional athlete to train like one.

What does a sports performance session look like?

Sessions are designed around your specific goals, whether that's improving speed and agility, building strength, preparing for a competition, or returning to sport after an injury. Your program is built by physical therapists who understand both performance and the body's limits.

Do I need to be injured to work with you?

Not at all. Many of our sports performance clients have never had a significant injury, they're simply looking to perform better and stay healthy. Injury prevention is a core part of what we do.

HYROX Training

What is HYROX?

HYROX is a global fitness race that combines 8km of running with 8 functional workout stations. It's one of the fastest-growing competitive fitness events in the world, and AZPI is an Official HYROX Training Club in Mesa, AZ.

Do I need to be training for a HYROX race to join your classes?

No, our HYROX-style classes are open to anyone who wants a challenging, structured group workout. Whether you're preparing for a race or just want to train in a competitive, community-driven environment, you're welcome.

What makes AZPI's HYROX training unique?

Our HYROX program is backed by Doctors of Physical Therapy, which means you're not just training hard, you're training smart. We emphasize movement quality, joint health, and injury prevention alongside performance, so you can handle high training volumes without breaking down.
